JISC News

Hi,

as one of the participants at the 2006 Jisc online conference, we thought you might be interested in the 2007 conference, Innovating e-Learning 2007 - Institutional Transformation and Supporting Lifelong Learning, 11 - 14 June 2007

This second conference focuses on the potential of e-learning in transforming practice within institutions and in supporting lifelong learning. The keynote presenters will offer a rich variety of perspectives on these themes:

Theme 1: Institutional transformation Day 1: Terry Mayes, Emeritus Professor, Glasgow Caledonian University, and Day 2: Dr John Guy, Principal, and Dr Mike Docker, Director, ICLT, the Sixth Form College, Farnborough

Theme 2: Supporting Lifelong Learning, introduced by Robin Mason, Professor of Educational Technology at The Institute of Educational Technology, The Open University

The concluding presentation will be given by Oleg Liber, Professor of e-Learning and Director of the Research Centre for Educational Technology and Interoperability Standards (CETIS), University of Bolton.

As well as these keynote presenters, there is a very large number of other sessions and presentations, making up what we hope is an exciting and useful programme. The full programme (and booking
information) can be seen at:

www.jisc.ac.uk/elp_conference07

As last year, the conference will be open for a week for pre-conference reading, from the 4th June. The conference itself will run from 11-14 June and will then remain open for viewing for a full month, until 15 July.

Hope to see you there,

Geoff.

JISC Conference 2007

I attended JISC's 2006 Conference last spring, and I really learned a lot. It was nice to be at a conference meeting that was not school specific and didn't have the sorts of pressures that job retreats do. I highly encourage folks to sign up and enjoy this year's conference if you are in Birmingham (it looks as if this year's conference is on-site only). Check out http://www.jisc.ac.uk/events.aspx for full information.

Illinois Online Conference Call for Presentation Proposals

Presentation proposals are being accepted for the 5th Annual Illinois Online Conference (IOC) for Teaching and Learning. Featured speakers include Tony Bates, Margaret Maag, Chip Banks and Jonathan Finkelstein. For more information, go to our website at

http://www.ilonlineconf.org

Submissions will be accepted through December 13, 2006. The conference will be held February 14-16, 2007. Please submit your proposal here:

http://www.ilonlineconf.org/index.cfm?page=callForProposals

This year the Curriculum, Technology, and Education Reform (CTER) Online Master of Education Program from the University of Illinois will feature a hybrid conference live from the University of Illinois in Champaign and through the IOC community. Presenters and participants online will be given access to both the IOC and CTER conferences.

This conference - which is attended by participants from all across the globe - is held entirely on the Internet using: live virtual classrooms, recorded presentations, email, web poster sessions, synchronous chats, discussion areas, and other Internet technologies. IOC was created to focus on issues and concerns of K-20 classroom faculty and related technology support, learning resources, student services, and workforce development professionals.

IOC 2007 takes place in a LearningTimes Online Conference Community - an online environment in which groups of participants, both small and large, gather electronically to learn, collaborate and network. Not sure how an online conference works? Want to experience the conference community before registering? Highlights from last year's conference are available at:

Seattle Times Article

An interesting article on Adjunct Pay was in yesterday's Seattle Times. Also, if you are interested in pay issues, you might want to check out the current issue of The Adjunct Advocate, as there is a story regarding pay equity there.

A New Book about Teaching Online

A new book, Making Money Teaching Online, is now available for preorder.

Given that there is an ongoing debate about how online and onground teaching are different, I'm a bit dismayed about the way in which the title focuses on making money, rather than on quality instruction. I'll also post this entry to our LiveJournal Community (see the link to the right) so that we can actually discuss this if folks want to.

If I can get my hands on the book from a library, perhaps I'll post a review.
